About The Event
Worldwide, cities are having to develop new approaches to community safety and well-being challenges that include: houselessness, substance misuse, violence, and property crime. The global pandemic has only exacerbated many of these issues. Innovative responses involving cross-sector partnerships are necessary for effectively and efficiently promoting community safety and well-being.
The Edmonton Police Service and Edmonton Police Foundation are pleased to host the inaugural The Safety of Our Cities Conference. This event will bring together members from the public safety community to:
- Explore how partnerships between law enforcement, social services, health, and other sectors are vital to tackling complex public health and safety issues.Â
- Highlight how research and innovation serve as critical tools in designing and delivering our collective responses.Â
- Operationalize new approaches to maximize impacts for your organization and the community.
Speakers and participants will offer insights and examples into their experience developing impactful partnerships and leveraging innovative thinking to implement effective solutions from the perspective of the people, places, and issues that make up our cities.
The conference will include a Dragon’s Den inspired pitch contest and will culminate in the launch of a new global innovation challenge.
Example topics include: trust and relationship building, public health and law enforcement, policing and vulnerable populations, diversion programs, technological responses to crime and disorder, violent crime, ethical data use and algorithmic policing, community-police engagement, and new deployment models.
